Over 51% of Canadians have a college degree, the highest rate in the world. An estimated 70% of Canadian college students will receive more grant monies than the cost of average tuition, meaning the student will have no debt after leaving college. Here is an overview of some of the most famous colleges in Canada:

1. University of Ottawa

The University of Ottawa was founded in 1848. It is the biggest English and French bilingual college in the world. The university enrolls over 35,000 undergraduate students and over 6,000 post-graduate students each year.  The Teffler School of Management is the fifth highest ranked undergraduate business program in Canada. The University of Ottawa Law School is ranked 1tth in Canada. The University of Ottawa Engineering School is ranked 3rd in Canada.   

2. University of Toronto

The University of Toronto was founded in 1827. The Munk School of Global Affairs is famous for its international affairs and global policy programs. The Toronto School is famous for communication theory and literary criticism. The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is Canada’s biggest public health school, with 800 students.

3. University of Alberta

The University of Alberta was founded in 1908 and currently has 31,648 undergraduate students and 7,664 post-graduate students from Canada and 151 other countries. The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research has over 170 graduate studies programs. The Faculty of Law is western Canada’s oldest Law School. It offers constitutional studies, health laws, science policies and law reform.

4. University of Waterloo

The University of Waterloo was founded on July 1, 1957. There are currently 31,380 undergraduate students and 5,290 post-graduate students from Canada and 140 other countries. The engineering and technology program is ranked 3rd best in Canada. The computer science program is also ranked 3rd best in Canada. The Faculty of Mathematics is also the 3rd best program in Canada.

5. McMaster University

McMaster University was founded in 1890 and currently has 26,780 undergraduate students and 4,485 post-graduate students. The McMaster University Medical Centre is Canada’s second largest neonatal intensive care unit and third largest child and youth mental health unit. This research hospital is near the life sciences building and has numerous genetics and infectious diseases research groups. The McMaster Nuclear Reactor helps students who are studying nuclear engineering, medical physics and other radiation sciences.

6. University of BC

The University of British Columbia was founded in 1908 and currently has 53,464 undergraduate students and 10,454 post graduate students between two campuses; Vancouver and Okanagan. The university is known for TRIUMF, a particle and nuclear physics laboratory. The school is regularly ranked as one of the three best research universities in Canada. In 1971 a normal school program was launched to give educators teaching methods for disabled students.

7. McGill University

McGill University was founded in 1821 and currently has 27,526 undergraduate students and 9,704 post-graduate students. There are about 500 exchange students from 32 other countries. The school is known for marine science and houses the Huntsman Marine Science Centre, a laboratory used for teaching and research.
