Understanding Ontario's Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)



Undoubtedly, Ontario is Canada's most popular province. More than 40% of total population of Canada resides in Ontario. The provincial nominee program of Ontario is also known as Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program. There are three main categories in the Ontario PNP:

  1. Business Category
  2. Human Capital Category
  3. Employer Job Offer or General Category
This program mainly focuses on skills and labor which can help develop the economy of Ontario and its labor market. The Ontario PNP will give you great boost for your permanent residency application when you apply in future. The main factors which are taken into consideration for OINP are educational qualifications, work experience, language exam results, and many other. 

The Human Capital Stream is divided into two main categories: 

1. Express Entry Stream

Similar to the Canada's express entry, Ontario also has its own express entry system. The three main categories of Ontario Express Entry system are: 
  1. Skilled Trades Stream
  2. Human Capital Priorities Stream
  3. French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream
2. Graduate Stream

The Graduate Stream allows international students who have completed either masters or PhD in Ontario to work and live permanently in Ontario. No job offer is required to apply under this stream.  

Employer Job Offer/General Category Stream

The Employer Job Offer category allows employers in Ontario to recruit foreign workers or international students to meet their labor or human resource skills needs. The job positions which are approved for this stream are NOC skill type A, B and O. 

Who can apply under this stream? 
  1. International Students
  2. Foreign Worker or People with International Work Experience
  3. Employers to find foreign workers who have required skills and knowledge to get human resource for their company
  4. In-demand skills

Business Category

The Business Stream is divided into two categories: 
  1. Corporate Stream
  2. Entrepreneur Stream
OINP program also helps entrepreneurs and businesspersons from various countries to invest and grow their business in Ontario. They can apply for permanent residence in Ontario to further expand their business here. It does require an internal review and you are supposed to send an email to internalreview-revisioninterne@ontario.ca
